The surname, Smith, in the U.S.
Is the most common name there is.
Started with the metal men, yes.
But later lost ties with that biz.
Native Americans would call
All colonists, Smith, and some stuck.
Smith was chosen by one and all,
Who then gave their flawed name the shuck.
Lots of Smiths did own lots of slaves,
Who when freed took Smith as their own.
Many who don't want to make to make waves,
Take Smith as the name to be known.

And of course, thieves now play the game -
Steal identity - my Smith name.
