In Need

Helping the poor - I never did.
I figured they were just lazy,
And looking for a way to kid
Us working stiffs for a freebie.
I remember the Aesop tale
Of ants that constantly did work,
While the grasshopper did avail
Of doing nothing - what a jerk.
But I became an ant that lost
My job and means of livelihood.
Becoming poor does have its cost.
Something I never thought I would.

I have to ask for charity.
I have to feed my family.
