Sense Sonnet - Acher
Too Common Encounter
The panhandlers are up and down
Each and every street I'm on,
Too common in Chicago town,
Begging for handouts, dusk and dawn.
A part of me wants to help all,
But part of me says there's no way
To know to make the judgement call
Of who should get my help today.
A lot of them are in real need,
But lots of them just work a scam.
No way for me to know indeed,
But I know how lucky I am.
Too many panhandlers there be,
But for the grace of God goes me.
