Sense Sonnet - Acher
St. Elmo's Fire
St. Elmo's fire, a weather thing,
First noticed by sailors afloat,
Warning of a strike of lightning,
When a mast lit up on a boat.
Turns out charged ions caused the glow.
When lightning flashed but did not hit,
The sailors were relieved and so
Gave St. Elmo credit for it.
Since then many a tale's been told
How a St. Elmo's fire took hold
And lit a spark inside and out.
St. Elmo's fire burning in me.
A bad case of heartburn it be.
