Nighttime and I passed by a shop,

The neon "E" in "Shoppe" burned out.

And so I decided to stop,

The burned out "E" I asked about.

Turned out 'twas a purposeful act

To get people to hear the joke

Of why the "E" in the sign lacked,

Bringing in me and other folk.

Vintage records the shop did sell,

And this was not an easy task,

So it helped with a joke to tell.

"So, what is the joke?" I did ask.

The shopkeeper replied to me,

"It is an old E but a good  E."
