Sense Sonnet - Pumper

 Named for Two Fathoms

Samuel Langhorne Clemens did do

Some piloting of a steamboat

Up and down the Mississipp, true!

So as a writer he did note

He should come up with a new name

That rolled better off of the tongue,

Give him a legacy of fame

Among the reading old and young.

Remembering his river days,

That two fathoms or twelve feet be

Safe depth for sail through river ways.

Seeing mark two meant boat safety.

Famous stature he did attain,

Writing under the name, Mark Twain.
