 Ivory Billed Woodpecker

One wild wood pecking sound has stilled,

Last heard in 1944

A woodpecker, ivory billed,

Is deemed extinct forevermore.

Many have claimed to hear and see

This woodpecker from time to time.

But no sure evidence does be.

Finding a live one has been prime.

The theory is that logging led

To lots fewer forest trees that

New woodpeckers stopped being bred

Because of loss of habitat.

But the woodpecker still is sought.

Finding one - maybe, maybe not.
