Sense Sonnet - Acher

A Day to Dream

He died in 1968,
Assassinated in a time
When there was too much racial hate,
One more victim of a hate crime.
To keep alive his memory,
To holiday his birth date turned.
'Twas not an easy day to be,
Fiery racial hatred still burned.
Decades have passed since he was killed.
The nation still struggles to try
To live the dream that he had willed.
The nation still is not sure why.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
His dream still seems so far away.
