North American woodpeckers,
Northern flickers to be exact,
Are found by some human checkers
To do a color changing act.
The yellow shafted flicker does
Be changing to red shafts much more.
Not red shafted mating, but cuz
Eating of red berries galore.
The color of feathers can change,
Depending on what birds might eat.
So most likely would not be strange
To turn yellow - bon appetit.

The red shafted flicker may find
A yellow turn from lemon rind.
