Sense Sonnet - Tickler

April First Fools' Day Joke

The April Fools' Day joke - the first
On record, sixteen ninety eight,
Tower of London news conversed -
Watch lions be washed, don't be late.
Londoners did flock to the scene.
Real lions or the ones in stone?
But 'twas just fooling to be mean.
The April Fools' joke seed was sown.
For centuries, lion lyin'
Fooled bunches of Londoner folk,
Off to washin' to be eyein'
But seein' themselves as the joke.

The lions at the London Zoo
Roar in laughter - oh yes they do!
