Sense Sonnet - Pumper

Washington Monument

I, the Washington Monument,
Was built in Washington, D.C.
George made a name - that's evident.
So thanks to him, I came to be.
An obelisk made all of stone,
Took over 50 years to do.
Loads of human squabbling got thrown
Into the mix, but I got through.
Over 500 feet I rise.
An earthquake failed to bring me down.
Well known symbol up in the skies,
A good thing done in D.C. town.

There's something about me that's weird.
Ten inches of me disappeared.
