Choose to Try

I volunteered because I could
Do something that might save the day.
The tries so far have not been good,
But I must help to find the way
To stave off the nuclear threat
To my nation and family.
New cooling down pumps must be set
By hand by trained persons like me.
I know the odds are I will not
Survive radiation effects.
But more important, I have got
To try to do what hope expects.

It matters not I live or die,
But only that for hope I try.
